49 researchers from the University, among the most cited in the world, according to the Stanford ranking.
Dr. Gema Frühbeck, from the Clínica, and researchers Christoph Zott, from IESE, and Maite Huarte, from Cima, occupy the top positions at the academic center.

The University of Navarra has positioned 49 of its researchers among the most influential in the world, according to the latest edition of the Ranking of the World Scientists: World's Top 2% Scientist by DataMeta Lab based on information from Elsevier.
In its ranking for 2023, the ranking, also called Stanford University, has identified 19 researchers from different faculties of the academic center(Medicine, Pharmacy and Nutrition, Communication, Sciences, Economic Sciences, Tecnun-School of Engineering and the Institute for Culture and Society-ICS); another 17 researchers develop their work in different areas of theClínica Universidad de Navarra7 at IESE Cimaand 6 others at IESE Business School. In addition, three of the Cima researchers are listed for articles signed as members of the Institute for Health Research of Navarra (IdiSNA).
The ranking is now in its seventh edition and identifies the world's most relevant scientists according to the citation impact of their publications, classifying them into 22 scientific fields and 174 subfields or research areas.
In total, researchers from the University of Navarra appear in 9 of the 22 scientific areas of the ranking, ranging from medicine, biology, biomedicine, physics and astronomy to engineering, communication and social sciences, Economics or management. In addition, they appear in 30 of the 174 sub-areas, among which research on oncology, endocrinology, nutrition and dietetics and immunology stand out, but there are also publications on communication and media studies, criminology, marketing, Economics, industrial relations, and electrical and electronic engineering.
International research and multidisciplinary
According to Paloma Grau, Vice President for Research and Sustainability at the University of Navarra, "this recognition highlights the University of Navarra's very high commitment to research excellence and the significant contribution of our academics to the advancement of knowledge in their respective areas. The fact that 49 of our researchers are included among the most cited in the world reflects the quality and international impact of the research carried out in our faculties, institutes and centers". He also points out that "the diversity of areas represented in this ranking highlights the multidisciplinary and global nature of research at the University of Navarra, oriented to the service of society and sustainable progress".
The list presents two differentiated rankings: one that reflects the impact throughout the entire research career until 2023, and another that focuses on the impact of the year 2023. The selected researchers are in the top 2% of the database Scopus, making this ranking one of the most inclusive globally.
Gema Frühbeck, director of the Metabolic Research Laboratory and co-director of the area Obesity Clínica Universidad de Navarra, is one of the most highly ranked researchers at the University of Navarra. Frühbeck appears in the ranking with 454 publications and occupies position 4,587 among the most influential scientists in the world and position 3,285 according to the publications made in the year 2023. In second place, researcher of the IESE Business School and professor at department of Entrepreneurship Christoph Zott, in position 6,983; and Maite Huarte, director of the Division of DNA and RNA Medicine at Cima University of Navarra, in position 9,080. Completing the top ranks of the most cited from the University of Navarra are: Ignacio Melero, Bruno Sangro, Javier Díez, Xavier Vives, Antonio González-Martín, Pascual Berrone, Domènec Melé, Jesús San Miguel, Luis Alberiko Gil-Arana, Miguel Fernández de Sanmamed, Ramón Salaverría and Ruth Breeze.
In total, the Stanford ranking ranks 217,097 scientists from public and private universities in countries around the world.
