Quality
Internal Quality Assurance System of the Degrees of the University of Valencia Tecnun
The School of Engineering considers it essential to guarantee the quality of the degrees and services it offers. To this end, the university has implemented an Internal Quality Assurance System (SAIC) with the aim of continuously monitoring and reviewing its degrees. This systematically covers the activities that the Faculty carries out in order to enhance the quality and continuous improvement of all official qualifications (bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees) and the services it offers.
The School of Engineering has a Quality Assurance Committee, which is responsible for promoting and supervising the quality management system.
By incorporating review and continuous improvement strategies, the School of Engineering aims to develop and monitor its actions, review and redefine them according to the needs and expectations of its stakeholders.

Academic Regulations
Enrolment is done only once a year, and once it has been formalised it is irrevocable. It is advisable to read carefully the enrolment report which lists the subjects in which the student has been enrolled; if an error is detected, it should be rectified as soon as possible (on the spot, if possible), and in any case before 7 September. After this deadline, any modification of the enrolment must be made by means of an application, providing the reasons for the modification.
-
In the second semester, there will be a period for enrolment extensions, from 10 to 31 January. Enrolment extension requests must be reasoned.
-
When registering for each academic year, students must first include the subjects they have failed in previous years.
-
Enrolment must be for a minimum of 40 ECTS and a maximum of 78 (with a tolerance of 2 ECTS, both minimum and maximum).
-
Students who have not passed 48 ECTS in first-year subjects may not enrol for more than 72 ECTS in that academic year.
-
Students who have enrolled in optional subjects cannot cancel their enrolment in some of them because they have subsequently obtained the recognition of some credit; the obtaining of these credits must be foreseen when they formalise their enrolment.
Self-registration regulations
In some cases the student will not have access to self-enrolment or will be restricted in completing enrolment: enrolment restrictions.
General Provisions
-
The permanence of students at the University of Navarra is limited to a period that includes two more academic years than those established in the corresponding study plans or once the number of convocations per subject established by the University has been exhausted.
-
However, once this period has elapsed, this period may be extended by one or two more academic years for those students who, having obtained the majority of the course credits, can justify not having been able to dedicate themselves to their studies for sufficiently justified and worthy of consideration reasons.
-
The extension must be requested, within the last year of permanence, by means of a request addressed to the Board of Directors of the centre, which will decide after verifying the reasons given and with the report of the Board of Directors of the Centre.
-
Students may sit a maximum of four exam sittings (two sittings per academic year) in each subject, provided that they have met the criteria for continuance. Those who fail to pass a subject after the fourth sitting must request an extension to two more sittings; the request must be formalised within the month following the publication of the grades for the fourth sitting, by means of a reasoned request addressed to the Subdirección de Alumnos.
Once the 6th session has been completed, students will not be able to continue their studies at Tecnun. In the event that they wish to continue, they must apply by means of a request endorsed by their advisor and addressed to the Board of Directors of the centre.
Year 1
First-year students who have not passed a minimum of 20 ECTS credits in the first two years of the first academic year will not be able to continue their studies at Tecnun.
All students after the second year at Tecnun must have passed a minimum of 40 ECTS of first-year subjects in order to be able to continue their studies.
Access by validation
Students from other degrees and/or universities who do not pass a minimum of 20 ECTS in their first year at TECNUN will not be able to continue their studies. After the second year they must have passed a minimum of 40 ECTS of subjects from any course, not counting validated subjects.
Regulations for Master's degree courses
1. Students shall remain on the University's official master's degrees for a period of time that is limited to the academic year or academic years stipulated in each master's degree's report as necessary for the completion of these studies.
2. However, once this period has expired, it may be extended by one more academic year for those students who have obtained the majority of the credits of the master's degree and who can justify not having been able to devote sufficient time to their studies for sufficiently accredited reasons.
3. The extension must be requested, within the last year of the student's stay, by means of an application addressed to the Rectorate of the University, which will take a decision after a report from the Board of Directors of the Centre.
4. When there are sufficient reasons and experience so advises, the Centres may propose to the Rectorate their own specifications to these regulations.
5. Students with special educational needs or part-time students who cannot comply with these provisions should consider their situation each year before enrolling, in order to adapt it to their possibilities of dedication to their studies.
6. Students enrolled in master's degrees that have not been adapted to the European Higher Education Area or that are the University's own degrees shall be subject to the rules of continuance applicable to these studies.
7. Full-time students may enrol for a minimum of 40 ECTS and a maximum of 60 ECTS. Part-time students may enrol for a minimum of 1 ECTS and a maximum of 39 ECTS. In the second year of master's degrees with more than 60 ECTS, full-time students may enrol for a minimum of 40 ECTS and a maximum of 78.
FIRST YEAR: FINAL CHOICE OF DEGREE
In their first year, students at TECNUN make the definitive choice of the degree they are going to study.
This choice is made in January-February through Academic Management (whether or not there is a change of degree). Beforehand, students receive information sessions and are encouraged to consult with the advisor.
After the definitive choice of degree, only one change of degree is allowed, for duly justified reasons and submitted in writing to the Subdirección de Alumnos.
SUBSEQUENT CHANGE OF QUALIFICATION
-
Only one change of qualification is allowed
-
The change may be requested at the end of the academic year, once the grades have been published and before the enrolment dates. In the case of failed subjects, it may be requested after the notification of the grades of the extraordinary exam, always before the enrolment dates in September.
-
The application shall be submitted by means of a request, duly reasoned and endorsed by their adviser.
-
Subdirección de Alumnos will decide on the basis of the student's academic record, the opinion of the student's advisor and the reasons given, and will communicate the decision to the student.
-
In the event of a favourable resolution, a new file will be opened in the new degree chosen, with the previous file being interrupted. All the subjects taken in the previous degree will appear as recognised (RC), with a numerical grade and the year in which they were passed.
-
In the event that the student needs to apply in the future for a grace period for a subject (5th and 6th), all the grace periods that the student has attended will be taken into account, both in the interrupted record and in the new degree.
ACCESS TO DOUBLE DEGREES
-
The double degree in Mechanics-Design will be entered after finishing the first year, regardless of the initial degree in mechanics or design chosen. Students must enrol from the second year onwards according to the sequence of subjects marked in the itinerary published on the website, and will not complete both degrees until their fifth year.
-
The application shall be submitted on the same dates and under the same conditions as a change of qualification.
What is plagiarism?(1)
Plagiarism is the act of copying or paraphrasing the work or ideas of others in a work without explicit acknowledgement of authorship. It includes any material, whether made public or unpublished, handwritten, printed or in electronic form.
Collusion is another form of plagiarism: it occurs when several students or others collaborate on work that should be done individually.
Cases of possible plagiarism in assessed work will be dealt with in the light of the disciplinary regulations governing examination behaviour. Plagiarism, whether intentional or hasty (inadvertent), can lead to serious penalties, including termination of studies or expulsion from the university. Regulations on academic discipline.
Why is plagiarism important?
It would be a mistake to describe plagiarism only as a minor offence, or as a matter of academic formality. On the contrary, plagiarism is a serious breach of academic honesty. It is a principle of intellectual honesty that all members of the scientific community acknowledge their debt to the authors of the ideas, papers and data that form the basis of the work they present. Passing off the work of others as one's own is not only a lack of collegiality, it is also a failure in the learning process. Deliberate plagiarism is unethical behaviour and can have serious consequences for your future career; it also undermines the foundations of the institution and the studies in which it takes place.
What forms of plagiarism are possible?
- Quoting verbatim from the intellectual work of others without proper acknowledgement. Quotations should always be identified by the use of established marks - inverted commas or the use of a different typeface - and an appropriate bibliographical reference. It should be clear to the reader which parts of your work are your own and which are based on the ideas or expressions of others. "Citing is a good thing. Using a lot of bibliography and quoting a lot of people is a sign that you have done your work" (2).
- Paraphrasing the work of others by changing some words, or the order, or closely following the structure of their argumentation, is plagiarism because one draws one's expressions or ideas from the work of others without acknowledging it. Even if one includes a reference to the author, it may give the false impression that the paraphrased expressions are actually the student's own. It is better to write a brief summary of the author's entire argument in your own words than to paraphrase paragraphs from his or her paper. This will ensure that you have a true mastery of the argument and avoid the difficulty of paraphrasing without plagiarising. You should also give specific reference to anything that comes from your reading.
- Copy and paste from the Internet. Information from the Internet should be cited and referenced and included in the bibliography used. It is important to carefully examine all material found on the Internet, because websites are not always as reliable as books.
- Collusion or dissimulation. This is an impermissible collaboration between students. It occurs when the help received from another student is covered up or when the instructions given for group work are not followed. It is the responsibility of each student to know what limits of collaboration are allowed and which parts of the work are his/her responsibility.
- Inaccurate citations. It is important to cite correctly, according to the conventions of each area. Also, do not include any references in the notes or bibliography that have not been consulted. If the source could not be consulted, it should be clear in the citation that your knowledge of the book comes from a secondary text (e.g. Bradshaw, D., Title of book, reviewed in Wilson, E., Title of book (London, 2004), p. 189).
- Omission of acknowledgement. You should clearly state all sources used in the preparation of your work, such as advice from peers or other external support. This does not apply to tutor or supervisor assistance, nor does it apply to the usual proofreading; but you need to acknowledge other guidance that leads to substantial changes to your writing in content or point of view.
- Companies or professional agencies. You should not make use of companies in the completion of assignments, or submit material that others have written for you (on commission or on websites that sell work). It is vital for your learning and intellectual development that you undertake the research process without (external) help.
- Self-plagiarism. You must not submit work that you have previously submitted (in part or in full) to meet the requirements of another course or test.
Plagiarism concerns not only texts. The obligation to give the reference concerns the text, but also other media, such as computer documents (web pages), illustrations, plans, graphs, etc. It also applies to texts published in books and periodicals, as well as to unpublished texts, be they lecture materials, theses or essays by other students.
More information on the specific way of citing can be found in: El reconocimiento de las fuentes en un trabajo académico (University of Navarra, Facultad de Filosofía y Letras, 2012 - accessed 11/1/2017).

Plagiarism in exams (and copying in general) is an offence defined in the Regulations on Student Academic Discipline, the penalty for which is the loss of the sitting in which the offence is committed. Repeated plagiarism is a serious offence, the penalty for which may be the loss of several sittings of the same subject or even of several subjects.
Students may be asked to identify themselves. Therefore, it is compulsory to take the exam with the University ID card or, failing that, with a valid ID card or passport. It is a serious offence to impersonate a student in exams.
It is forbidden to take written examinations using mobile phones, computers, smartwatches and, in general, any electronic device capable of external connection and/or mass storage of images or text. The prohibition affects both the use and possession of these devices during the exam. Calculators may be brought to the exam if the teacher allows it and are NOT programmable. The written examination must be taken with a ballpoint or fountain pen, but NOT with a pencil unless explicitly permitted by the teacher.
During the examination, you should remain silent and avoid any behaviour that could be interpreted as asking for help or giving information.
If the student has any questions regarding the operation of the exam, he/she can raise his/her hand and ask the invigilator. However, questions regarding the content of the exam can only be asked to the subject teacher (NOT to the invigilator).
The pupil may not leave the classroom for no apparent reason and without prior permission from the proctor. In case of an emergency, the student must raise his/her hand and follow the proctor's instructions. In any case, if the student is allowed to leave the classroom due to an emergency, he/she will not have additional time to complete the exam. It is forbidden to eat or drink during the exams. Exceptionally, a transparent bottle with water is allowed.
If the invigilator has explicitly allowed it, the student may hand in the examination and leave the room before the time limit has expired. If there are less than 5 minutes left before the end of the examination, it is not possible to leave the room and the instructions for the completion of the examination must be followed. In this case, the student must remain seated at his/her seat until the invigilator gives permission to leave the room.
When the invigilator indicates the end of the time allotted for the examination, the student must stop writing and leave the pen on the table. The student may not take any examination material, including scratch paper, out of the room without the express consent of the teacher.
Requests to change exam dates must be made by means of a generic request indicating the subjects and the reasons for which the change is requested.
Changes of examination dates will only be granted in the case of:
-
Serious illness requiring hospitalisation on the date of the examination.
-
Serious family situation.
-
Students representing the University in an institutional activity (official sports competitions or university congresses).
-
When Tecnun exams coincide in date and time.
Coincidence of exams
Only those exams that coincide in date and time will be considered to coincide. In other words, if a student has two exams on the same day, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon, he/she cannot request a change of date for either of them. If a student has two exams on the same day and at the same time, he/she can request a change of one of the two exams. The deadline for making the request:
The deadline dates for requesting a change of exams due to coincidence are as follows
-
November 21 for the first quarter regular session.
-
5 January for the extraordinary call of the first four-month period.
-
May 5 for the second quarter regular call for the second semester
-
June 8 for the extraordinary convocation.
Failures in the exchange programme
The student can take an extraordinary exam at Tecnun of an equivalent subject that he/she is taking through an exchange program. The student must apply in writing to International Relations before the deadline for the Waiver of Extraordinary Examination at Tecnun.
You can only take two exams per year, adding the exams taken abroad and eventually at Tecnun. Any failure/no-show at the host university counts as a failure on the transcript.
Examinations cannot be taken outside the official periods. The exchange may be incompatible with taking an extraordinary exam and you would lose your right.
Bringing forward to SEPTEMBER the ordinary exam to finish the degree:
If a student is only one or two subjects short of finishing his or her degree, he or she can request, before 15 July, to bring forward to September the ordinary call of the subjects, provided that he or she meets the following conditions:
-
That the student has taken these subjects.
-
The student must have taken the last sitting of these subjects.
-
That the student has completed the work and practice required in these subjects.
Bringing forward to DECEMBER the ordinary exam to finish the degree:
If a student has less than 30 ECTS left to finish their degree, they can apply, before 6 November 2020, to bring forward to December the ordinary call for the second semester subjects, provided that they meet the following conditions:
-
That the student has taken these subjects.
-
The student must have taken the last sitting of these subjects.
-
That the student has completed the work and practice required in these subjects.
Bringing forward to JANUARY the ordinary or extraordinary exams to finish the degree or to access the Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering or Telecommunications.
If a student is one or two subjects short of finishing their degree, they can apply before 4 January 2021, requesting to bring their exams forward to January. The Subdirección de Alumnos will assess the case and the resolution will be communicated to the student, provided that the following conditions are met:
-
That the student has taken these subjects.
-
The student must have taken the last sitting of these subjects.
-
That the student has completed the work and practice required in these subjects.
Advance notice of the exams to finish the MASTER's degree:
If a student is only one or two subjects short of finishing his/her master's degree, he/she can apply for an advance of the ordinary or extraordinary call for the subjects, provided that he/she meets the following conditions:
-
That the student has taken these subjects.
-
The student must have taken the last sitting of these subjects.
-
That the student has completed the work and practice required in these subjects.
-
Students may not waive exam sittings at their own discretion, but they may be excused from those that they are unable to attend for duly justified reasons, which must be presented in writing to the Subdirectorate for Students within the established dates, or before the exam if the reason for non-attendance occurs at that time. Those who are unable to sit a subject will not be allowed to sit the corresponding exam.
-
It is not permitted to waive more than two sittings of the same subject. If the student is enrolled in subjects of several courses in the same semester, it is only allowed to waive the subjects of the higher course, unless there is a justified cause by means of a request. This must be requested at each sitting.
-
It is not permitted to waive the ordinary and extraordinary exams of a subject at the same time. This must be requested at each sitting.
-
The deadlines for requesting the waiver of calls for applications are as follows:
-
30 November for the first semester's ordinary exams.
-
7 January for the extraordinary call of the first four-month period.
-
10 May for the ordinary session of the second four-month period
-
13 June for the extraordinary session
-
-
Deadlines for requesting the waiver of Master's degree exam dates:
-
18 May for the ordinary session.
-
-
The waivers obtained only produce academic effects and, therefore, do not entail total or partial cancellation of the enrolment and only have an effect on the exams and the corresponding subject; consequently, they do not have any economic effects either.
