"It was a lot of work, but it was worth it".
The first year students' assessed practice in computer science was based on the game of chess.
The Evaluated Informatics Practice (PEI) of this course has been based on the game of chess. The students of the subject Computing I have designed and programmed the intelligence of the game of chess for the computer. That is, they had to design the configuration algorithm so that the figures on the digital board make the corresponding move, can eat the opponent's pieces, and be able to win the game.
The programme was designed so that students could test their algorithms against the computer and against the algorithms of other students. In fact, during practice, there were hard-fought duels, and even games that ended in a draw and had to be resolved with the students playing rock-paper-scissors to determine the winner.
The good atmosphere has been the general tone throughout the practice, and both students and teachers have had a great time. Two of the finalists, José Iribas and Mikel Casals were very happy to have reached the last rounds. "We have worked a lot, but reaching the final has been very exciting and worth it", they said.
The pairings between the students' algorithms have been randomly decided and the pairings have been played in phases until the intense and hotly contested final. As in previous years, the PEI is an optional work offered to the student to acquire more fluency and knowledge in the subject and the possibility of getting up to an extra point in the grade final of the subject Informática I, taught by professors Diego Borro, Andoni Beriain and Josune Hernantes, who also celebrated her birthday today.
