Joan Pardina is in the process of recovery after the operation he underwent at Hospital Quirónsalud Donostia last week for the nasal fracture he suffered in a play at meeting on January 7 against Iberostar Tenerife. The injury is evolving favorably, and Pardina will soon be able to return to work with his teammates thanks to a mask developed by Tecnun.

This week, Dr. Luis Matey and Dr. Aitor Cazón, professors of the department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials of Tecnunhave scanned the facial features of the player with the goal to obtain a virtual face in the computer and model, in a subsequent step, the geometry of the customized mask.

"Once the digital version of the face is available, the virtual mask is modeled in CAD software, taking the virtual face obtained as reference letter ," explained the expert Cazón, from the School of Engineering of the University of Navarra in Donostia.

Finally, a physical prototype of the mask has been built using Additive Manufacturing, more commonly known as 3D Printing. Pixel Sistemas S.L.. of Elgoibar, headed by Amadeo Corrius, has been responsible for this third step.

It should be noted that the mask has been manufactured using Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) technology in a material called Ultem, a thermoplastic for high-performance applications such as aeronautics.
