165 students from high school program have signed up for the conference Initiation to Engineering organized by Tecnun, the School of Engineering of the University of Navarra. The goal of this initiative, now in its 17th edition, is to encourage young people's interest in technical careers and research.

In the context of the International Day of Women in Engineering, which is celebrated today, June 23, it is worth noting that 43% of those attending the workshop are women, a figure that coincides with the issue of female students studying at the School of Engineering. This was explained by Mikel Arcelus, director of Promotion of Tecnun: "There was a very significant peak in the 18-19 course, in which 48% of the students who joined Tecnun were women. At the moment we have 40% of future female engineers at Tecnun , a positive and encouraging figure," Arcelus explained.

The young people, students in the first year of high school diploma, come from different schools in the Basque Country, Navarra, Aragon, Catalonia, Galicia, Madrid, Castile and Leon, Alicante, La Rioja and Andalusia.

The students have done internships in different workshops and laboratories in areas such as industrial design , telecommunications, robotics, mechanics, electronics, biomedical engineering or industrial organization and have known some of the research projects of the technology center Ceit.

In addition to receiving orientation sessions on the different Degrees offered by Tecnun and their professional opportunities, the students visited the automotive workshop to learn about the electric single-seater designed and built by the Tecnun eRacing team.

One of the participating students, Leyre Napal Monreal, came because of her interest in the world of engineering and architecture. "I know I want to do engineering but I don't know which one. I am opting for the Degree Industrial Engineering design and I wanted to know what subjects are taken and what other Degrees could fit me", she confessed.

It should be noted that in this first round of the conference, which will end on Friday 25, 84 students have attended, while the second workshop will take place from June 28 to 30 and will be attended by 81 students.
