Asier de la Torre is General Manager and commercial manager of the company Polistmodel, one of the main sponsors of the automotive team Tecnun eRacing. From this company they help the team members to mechanize the models that the Tecnun team has designed before.
Why did you decide to sponsor the automotive team Tecnun eRacing?
Every year we are asked by teams from Madrid, Seville or Vigo among others to collaborate in the construction of their projects. We took our first steps with the Formula Student Bizkaia team, for whom we made several chassis as well as other components such as spoilers. And we thought it was time to collaborate with the Tecnun team as well.
What subject from financial aid do you provide to your team members?
Our work consists of machining the models that the eRacing team has already designed. This time it has been rims, chassis and several diffusers.
Why do you think it is interesting to support a Formula Student team?
You never know where your team members might end up working. They could end up working at our client's premises, at a potential client's premises or at our premises. Although we know that 99% of this work is altruistic, you should always leave the door open.
How did this collaboration between Tecnun eRacing and your company come about?
As always with an email with a short presentation of the team's work. Followed by a phone call from Leire Izeta that caught on. In our case, it coincided that we were going through a bad status due to a fire in 2019 that affected our facilities and a complex 2020, but Leire knew how to convey her message.
What do you think of initiatives like this, and do you think that the pupils who take part in them leave the school even better prepared?
Personally, I think these are great initiatives. To be able to carry out a project of this magnitude with a scarce budget the students have to work very hard, not only looking for sponsorship, but also innovating and perfecting the designs and all this without neglecting their studies.
