The students of the automotive team of Tecnun, School of Engineering of the University of Navarra in San Sebastian, presented in the Aquarium the all-electric single-seater with which they will represent Gipuzkoa this summer.
The students will be driving at the Montmeló circuit in the international competition Formula Student from August 23 to 26. This Formula 1 for university students pits more than 2,500 engineering students from 600 universities around the world against each other every year.
The members of the Tecnun eRacingteam, made up of 56 students from different engineering courses at Degrees , explained at the Aquarium the characteristics of the single-seater designed and manufactured by them this year. The main novelty, as highlighted by the team leader, Koldo Iriarte, is the commitment to sustainable mobility. This was also underlined by the president of the Aquarium, José Ignacio Espel: "Although our foundation is in maritime research, we have a common goal with you, which is the care for the environment and the desire to reduce pollution".
The director of development of Tecnun, Iñigo Gutiérrez, thanked the students for their ability to teamwork: "We have students who set up a project like this one and can pull it off working like a real wild boar. You are an example of coordination, effort and work," he told the team members. "In addition, we have a favorable institutional environment and great support from the sponsoring companies, but the project has come out especially thanks to you," concluded Gutiérrez.
For his part, the team's director , Andoni Medina, proudly pointed out that, "in a difficult scenario, since Tecnun Motorsport and Tecnun Seed Racing were merging, you have been able to take a step forward".
Likewise, those responsible for the different areas of the electric car highlighted the use of 3D printers for the printing of some parts such as the ergonomic structure of the steering wheel and the ailerons. After the presentation, the students showed the single-seater to the audience, which included sponsors, teachers, friends and family.
Integrated learningTecnun eRacing is one of the integrated learning projects of the School of Engineering of the University of Navarra. Its main goal is to break boundaries between subjects and disciplines. As the team's director , Andoni Medina, points out, "Tecnun eRacing gives students an exceptional opportunity to put into practice all the theory they are learning in the classroom".
