The Deputy of Environment José Ignacio Asensio and the Director of Tecnun Raúl Antón, have signed a partnership agreement this morning at the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa to carry out a study to define the status of the companies in Gipuzkoa in subject of Economics circular. Through this research, a diagnostic model will be developed and its tool will be used in companies from different sectors. In addition, with the information obtained, a general analysis will be carried out comparing companies of different sizes and sectors. For this purpose, the department Environment Department of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa will make a financial contribution of 20,000 euros.

The diagnosis will allow to know the Degree of application of the principles of the circular Economics (use of waste as raw materials for new products) in Gipuzkoan companies and to know the areas and sectors with greater possibilities of growth. 

The signed agreement establishes that, in the framework of the research, the following tasks will be developed: review of the best practices and results of each of the fields of action of the Economics circular; review of the most appropriate indicators for each of the fields of the Economics circular, of agreement with the methodology and guidelines of the European Commission; evaluation of the model of diagnosis; valorization of the levels of results; development of the tool, test and validation; and obtaining of results and elaboration of final reports and conclusions.

The circular Economics is a new model that seeks the economic development in an environmentally sustainable way. This model proposes a Economics based on the use and recovery of biological and technical cycles of resources in the different phases of extraction, transformation, distribution and consumption. In this way, a more efficient use of material flows is achieved, waste is minimized and symbiosis is encouraged.

The Environment department of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa is moving in the direction of improving the environment and promote the circular Economics through various actions such as the creation of the recycling cluster GK Recycling or the sustainable fashion cluster GK Green Fashion. 

Tecnun has been working for some time on the idea of informing and promoting the transition of companies from a linear economic model to a circular one and, in this sense, is working on the integration of small and medium-sized companies in the circular Economics .
