The School of Engineering hosted the twelfth edition of SIC'26 (Signal Processing, Information Theory, and Communications) in Spain from January 28 to 31. Nearly sixty researchers from ten national universities participated in this edition. The event featured five prominent experts from various European institutions, who participated as guest speakers.
The sessions were led by Jan Andreas Siminski (ESA), Thomas Eriksson (Chalmers University of Technology), Marios Kountouris (EURECOM, France, and University of Granada), Petar Popovski ( Aalborg University), and Victor Elvira (University of Edinburgh). In addition, during the conference, doctoral students presented posters explaining their research work in areas such as signal processing, machine learning, quantum computing and communications, and communications networks.
The committee for these conference the School includes Tecnun professors and researchers Pedro Crespo and Xabier Insausti. According to Crespo, "this workshop is being held for the third time at Tecnun is funded by the Comonsens network Excellence, promoted by the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities." The origins of this network to the Consolider Projects of 2009, and it is currently coordinated by the Signal Processing and Communications group at the Carlos III University of Madrid.
Crespo also highlights the importance of these meetings, as they "allow scientific advances to be shared and generate opportunities for collaboration on research projects." An example of this is the project : Communication, Encoding, and Processing Technologies for Next-Generation Classical-Quantum Networks (MADDIE), in which Tecnun alongside the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), the University of Cantabria (UC), and the University of La Coruña (UDC).
