The researcher Marta Ormazábal, from the Institute of Biodiversity and Environment BIOMA and professor at Tecnunhas participated in the elaboration of an international study that proposes a framework of dynamic capabilities for companies to lead the creation of sustainable circular ecosystems.
The article, graduate "A dynamic capabilities framework for building circular ecosystems by focal firms"and published in the scientific journal Sustainable Production and Consumption, was developed together with researchers from the University of São Paulo (Brazil). The work analyzes how companies can transform their business models, coordinate collaborative networks to promote circular Economics and advance towards the Sustainable development Goals, especially SDG 12: Responsible Production and Consumption.
Through a qualitative study based on seven cases of international companies, the team identified the four core topic capabilities that enable organizations to build circular ecosystems: Sensing, or the ability to detect sustainable opportunities and new market niches; Seizing, which involves experimenting with and developing innovative solutions; Reconfiguring, focused on transforming internal processes and value chains; and a new category called Ecosystem Integrating, which highlights the skill of companies to coordinate actors, align interests and foster collaboration between different sectors.
As Ormazábal explains, "the transition to circular models depends not only on technology, but also on the ability of organizations to learn, collaborate and adapt collectively. Leading companies must become orchestrators of sustainable ecosystems". The proposed framework offers practical guide for managers and policy makers, helping them to design strategies that integrate innovation, digitization and multi-stakeholder partnerships.
The research underlines that the creation of circular ecosystems not only improves efficiency and reduces waste, but also generates shared value and business resilience in the face of environmental challenges. Therefore, Marta's work reinforces the role of the BIOMA Institute as areference in applied research for sustainability and circular Economics , promoting solutions that connect science, business and society.
