News and gallery of the Tecnun Postgraduate Opening Ceremony 2025-26

This morning took place the opening ceremony of the postgraduate course 25-26 of TecnunThe event was presided over by the Rector of the University, María Iraburu, the President of the Basque Parliament, Bakartxo Tejería, the director of the School, Francis Planes, the Professor Emeritus of Tecnun, José María Bastero, and the Deputy Director of Research at Tecnun, Marta Ormazábal. 

In an event marked by the excitement of the start of the postgraduate course, the ceremony began with the words of the director of the School, who explained to those present that Tecnun aspires to make students not only good professionals, but also better people. 

"They will be engineers with a spirit of service and a vocation for continuous improvement at the staff and professional level, capable of making responsible decisions and driven by professional ethics," said Francis Planes.

In the same vein, he expressed the desire to contribute "our grain of sand" by being aligned with the strategic plan of the government entities of Euskadi in their goal of achieving "a Gipuzkoa as a responsible, egalitarian, balanced and fair community", said the director. 

After showing the report for the 2024-25 academic year, Professor Emeritus Jose María Bastero gave the inaugural lecture, entitled"Javier García de Jalón, university teacher".

Bastero described the teacher-student relationship as "theresult mutual enrichment, if it runs through the channels of a kind attention and both naturally show a straightforward behavior," he said.

"It was not in vain that the founder of our University, St. Josemaría Escrivá, said that in university life, living together is the most formative aspect". 

As part of his lecture, Bastero explained to those present the importance of the figure of Javier García de Jalón. As he pointed out, "his life has bequest a luminous legacy to many people". 

Bastero paraphrased St. Josemaría and affirmed that "Javier's life has been useful, has left a mark and has enlightened many with the example of his Christian life.

At the event, the Javier García de Jalón Javier García de Jalón awards awards, which recognize the talent and commitment to engineering, the spirit of rigor, curiosity and service that characterized the professor.

The School's board of directors awarded the Javier García de Jalón accesit to Pablo Álvarez Santos for his thesis, supervised by professors framework Satrústegui de Legarra and Miguel Martínez-Iturralde. 

The Javier García de Jalón research award has been granted to Jazmina Navarrete for her thesis directed by professors Jose Manuel Sánchez Moreno and Lorena Lozada Cabezas. 

To close the event, María Iraburu addressed all the people who make up Tecnun , assuring them that they are in an unbeatable status to make significant contributions to the current challenges and problems. 

"Your university character gives you a broadened vision and the possibility to collaborate with specialists from all areas," he said.

In addition, the rector stressed that history and the past inspire and encourage us to project into the future: "we look ahead and consider what our role is here, today and now, to continue serving society with our work," she said.

In his final written request he pointed out, referring to graduate students, doctoral students and researchers, that they will be "the protagonists of this future, which will be shaped, step by step, by the exercise of your freedom, placed at the service of others".
