Javier Arricibita (Pamplona, 2002), former student of the Degree in Chemistry ( 2024) and of the Master in Computational Methods in Science (2025) has received this year a scholarship from the Ramón Areces Foundation, an entity that grants scholarships to finance postgraduate studies and research projects.
Javier has started this year his first year of doctoral dissertation at the department of Chemistry of the University, under the supervision of professors José Ramón Isasi and Bianca Menchicchi.
Javier's study focuses on protein stability: "My goal is to develop microspheres (capsules), which have the protein inside, greatly increasing its stability, using natural materials". Javier's work has different applications depending on the protein he is working with, from the elimination of contaminants dissolved in water, food preservation, drug release or biological event sensors.
Javier remembers his father as a scientific reference for his ability to stand up when research was not going as expected. As a former student at the School, he fondly recalls the knowledge dissemination activities he has carried out during his formative stage at the Degree under the guidance of Professor Cristina Sola: "We have gone to schools to teach people about everyday Chemistry . I believe that knowing how to disseminate is an aspect of science that this university works especially well".
