Five students from Tecnun awarded at the Galileo Masters competition in Marseille
His idea was to use satellite imagery to detect possible forest fires and then apply Galileo in the navigation system of the emergency services for their optimal organization.

A few days ago, five students of the Telecommunications Master's program from TecnunMiren Azcárate, Lucía Merino, María Prats, Marta Urquizu and Fátima Villa attended the submission awards ceremony of the Galileo Masters (European Satellite Navigation Competition) that took place during the European Space Week in the French city of Marseille.
In their case, they won the first award of the Basque Country. "We were also candidates for the general award , but due to the high level of the other participants, we could not win in that category as well," say the Telecommunications students, who are nevertheless satisfied with the recognition obtained.
The competition's goal was to develop a startup using Galileo, the European navigation system. "Our idea, Galifire, consisted of using satellite images (from the Copernicus Sentinel satellites) to detect possible forest fires in Galicia and the subsequent application of Galileo in the navigation system of the emergency services for their optimal organization," explain the students of Galifire. Tecnun.
All of them are grateful to BIC Gipuzkoa: "In addition to providing us with a strategic consultant to guide us on congress, BIC financed our trip and stay in Marseille. On the other hand, it offered us its financial aid to develop a business plan and access to public funds for innovative entrepreneurs," they say.
However, the greatest award was the opportunity to be part of a twelve-month incubation program in any of the business incubators in the Basque Country". An opportunity that I'm sure these five students from Tecnun will know how to make the most of it.
